On The Ground In Haiti

International aid (United Nations, Red Cross, etc) to Haiti is showing signs of slowing, so Brother Joseph sent Brother Guy Berthiaume and Brother Rene Dupius back to that country to continue the relief effort and make sure the believers have what they need to recover from the devastating earthquake that leveled Port au Prince on January 12th of this year.

The two brothers met with the distribution team that was first established to meet the immediate needs of the believers. The distribution network is still intact, working efficiently, and still delivering food to thousands of believers.

There is a general feeling of frustration among the people of Haiti because of bad political atmosphere within the country. The wheels of recovery seem to be slowing and almost coming to a standstill as the government is trying to slow the influx of aid because they say it is having a negative effect on the economy. And to add to the problems, the president is nearing the end of his term and national elections are coming soon. The general population is ok for now, but hundreds of thousands are still reliant on the international aid, which may be slowing in the near future.

The distribution centers that we set up are now safer, allowing believers to pick up their supplies with less danger than before. Brothers Guy and Rene have also met with Haitian government officials and importing agencies to make sure we are doing this work in the most efficient way possible.

We will again be posting regular updates of the work on Haiti on the “Earthquake Relief” link at the bottom of the main web page.
