The Missing Pieces Of The Puzzle

The Pacific West Coast of North America has been in the news a lot lately. Many geologists are raising the red flag that there are eminent dangers to the entire West Coast that could kill thousands of people. If you are familiar with Brother Branham’s Ministry, then you already know what is going to happen. California has a massive earthquake that is quietly building beneath the surface and will one day “sink that place.”

Look at the earthquakes over here in California. I predict, before the coming of the Lord Jesus, that God will sink that place. I believe that Hollywood and Los Angeles, and them filthy places over there, that God Almighty will sink them.

64-1227 Who Do You Say This Is?

Believers understand that the West Coast will one day be rocked by earthquakes, but science has also been saying the same thing for decades. How do they know? It’s pretty simple.

Scientists observe things. They try to figure out why things have happened, and then speculate what will happen in the future. They use every means at their disposal such as physical properties of rocks, recorded earthquakes, evidence of prehistoric earthquakes and tidal waves, and even writings of ancient civilizations. Each of these are pieces to a puzzle that is used to predict what will happen in the future. The problem is that they don’t know what the final puzzle looks like. The Word of God is like the picture of the final product on the outside of the puzzle box. If scientists would place the pieces of the puzzle according to the final picture, then they might get somewhere. The bottom line for us is if science matches the Word, then it’s true. If it does not match the Word, then our highly educated friends are simply wrong. The Word of God is the highest form of knowledge.

We compiled a few recent scientific findings that sound a bit familiar to what the prophet said many decades ago. While we don’t know exactly how the prophecies will come to pass, we are seeing science lean more towards prophecy than at any time before.

First of all, what do they mean when they say “Magnitude 7.0 earthquake?” Magnitude simply a measurement of how much energy is released at the source of the earthquake. The intensity, or strength, of an earthquake is determined by the amount of damage. The difference between a 4 and 5 might not seem significant to most of us, but it is. A magnitude 5 is 10 times bigger than a magnitude 4. So, when you add 1 to the intensity (4.0 to 5.0), you multiply the shaking by 10. That gets really big when the numbers get above 6 or 7, and a bigger quake produces more powerful shaking that lasts longer, which increases the strength another ten fold. For example, a 9.0 that could strike the northwest United States will release 100 times more energy and will be 1,000 times stronger than the 7.0 that flattened Haiti a few years ago.

Here are some examples of earthquake magnitudes. Less than 2.0 can’t be felt by most people. 2.0 to 3.9 can be felt, and will rattle the plates in the cupboard, but no big deal. You’ll know it’s an earthquake when a 4.0-4.9 hits. Some things might fall off the shelves, but there’s usually little damage, especially in more modern buildings. 5.0-5.9 will rattle things off the shelves and damage structures that are not well built, but they are usually not too dangerous. 6.0 to 6.9 is in the serious range. This is when houses start collapsing, and the shaking can be felt hundreds of miles away. 7.0 to 7.9 is considered a major earthquake. Depending on where it happens, it can produce thousands of casualties and major structural damage. Cities like Tokyo are built for major earthquakes so damage would be limited. However, when a 7.0 hit Haiti a few years ago, well over 100,000 people died more than 6 million were affected. Although most structures are well built in California, we are not as prepared as Tokyo or many other metropolitan areas for a large quake. A magnitude 8 and bigger is simply massive, with the potential to destroy anything in its path. The shaking alone would cause thousands of deaths if this quake hit Los Angeles, and if you include a tsunami, it would be catastrophic. The largest recorded earthquake in history was a 9.5, 1960 in Chile. The second largest was the magnitude 9.2 Alaskan “Good Friday” quake that Brother Branham spoke of.

There are two major fault systems in California that science knows about: 1) The San Andreas Fault, which runs from southern California near the Salton Sea, northward to Cape Mendocino in northern California. Scientists say that it can produce an earthquake in the magnitude 8 range. At the north end of the fault system, it comes near a powerful collision of two continental plates, called the Cascadia Subduction Zone. 2) The Cascadia fault system stretches from Cape Mendocino north, to Vancouver Island. Most of it lies under the ocean, which makes it doubly bad. Not only can this giant produce the largest earthquake ever recorded, but it can also produce a tidal wave that will engulf anything in its path. Most of the West Coast United States would be in danger.

There are two massive fault systems on the West Coast that have the potential to do catastrophic damage, but here’s something that science is now figuring out: the two fault systems are related! They are putting together pieces of the puzzle that shows most of the major San Andreas quakes have been caused by giant quakes on the Cascadia. So it’s possible to have a devastating quake and tidal wave in northern California, Oregon, or Washington (or all three); and shortly after, another quake could flatten Los Angeles. And all that comes from a few pieces of the puzzle that science has put together. The picture on the outside of the box says,

That’s solemn warning. We don’t know what time. And you don’t know what time that this city one day is going to be laying out here in the bottom of this ocean.

“O, Capernaum,” said Jesus, “thou who exalted into heaven will be brought down into hell, for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom and Gomorrah, it’d have been standing till this day.” And Sodom and Gomorrah lays at the bottom of the Dead Sea, and Capernaum’s in the bottom of the sea.

Thou city, who claims to be the city of the Angels, who’s exalted yourself into heaven and sent all the dirty filthy things of fashions and things, till even the foreign countries come here to pick up our filth and send it away, with your fine churches and steeples, and so forth the way you do; remember, one day you’ll be laying in the bottom of this sea. You’re great honeycomb under you right now. The wrath of God is belching right beneath you. How much longer He’ll hold this sandbar hanging over that, when that ocean out yonder a mile deep will slide in there plumb back to the Salton Sea. It’ll be worse than the last day of Pompeii. Repent, Los Angeles! Repent the rest of you and turn to God. The hour of His wrath is upon the earth. Flee while there’s time to flee and come into Christ.

Here are a few more pieces of the puzzle that we’ve heard from the news lately:

The history of measuring earthquakes strength was developed in 1935, so scientists are only speculating about the magnitude of historic earthquakes and frequencies. They think they understand how these things work, but they are speculating about thousands of years where they have no solid information.

The San Andreas fault extends about 800 miles through California and is 10 miles deep.

Both the San Andreas and Cascadia are called “fault systems” and not a “fault” because they are made up of numerous known and unknown faults, each having the potential to break and cause an earthquake.

The southern stretch of the San Andreas is long overdue for a major earthquake. It’s last major quake was an estimated 7.9 in 1857. The southern part of the San Andreas fault system (Los Angeles area) should move about 16 feet every 100 years. Otherwise, it just keeps building up pressure. 1812 saw the last substantial movement in that area, and further south, it has not moved since about 1680. It’s long overdue.

An earthquake on the Cascadia megathrust on January 26, 1700 not only shook the West Coast, but it produced a tidal wave that crossed the Pacific Ocean and wiped out villages in Japan.

The Cascadia megathrust also influences a number of volcanoes from northern California to British Columbia. There are 13 active volcanoes in that area. The largest is Mt. Shasta in California, and the potential to do the greatest damage is Mt. Rainier in Washington because of its close proximity to major population centers.

The 1906 earthquake in San Francisco was an estimated magnitude 8.2 on the northern San Andreas that killed more than 3,000 people and destroyed 28,000 buildings. There were 800,000 people living in the San Francisco Bay area in 1906. Today there are 7 million people living there.

On Jan 17, 1994, a mag 6.7 quake hit the Los Angeles area. It killed 57 people and caused 20 billion dollars in damage. Scientist say the San Andreas has the potential for an 8.0, which is 20 times bigger and almost 90 times stronger than a 6.7.

Recently, scientists have discovered that the San Andreas fault system is beginning to slowly move. They don’t know what this means and are speculating that it could be a warning sign of a major earthquake in California.

Here are some pieces of the puzzle that are in the picture on the outside of the box, but science misses.

  • The San Francisco Earthquake hit on April 18, 1906. The Azusa street revival started on April 9, 1906 in Los Angeles, which marked the beginning of the Seventh, and final, Church Age.
  • The Alaskan Earthquake hit on March 27, 1964. On March 25, 1964, a whirlwind ripped through a canyon in Arizona and it was revealed to Brother Branham that judgment would strike the West Coast.
  • The Word very plainly teaches us that earthquakes and flooding are often a result of sinful living (the great flood –Gen 7, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah –Gen 19).
  • Brother Branham said, “There's never been a time, since Sodom, that homosexuals and perversion was on the march as it is now.”
    • The first same-sex marriage law was enacted in Berkeley California, 1984.
    • Even though the people of the United States almost always vote against same-sex marriage, courts consistently overturn the vote of the people. The most powerful court in the world has now settled the issue. The United States Supreme Court issued a blanket ruling that same sex marriage is legal throughout the United States.
    • These things have never happened in all recorded history. Ask yourself this question: What’s worse, our modern world or Sodom and Gomorra? “If God would let this nation get by with what it's done now, He would be obligated to raise up Sodom and Gomorrah, and apologize for burning them up.” (64-0208)

It could be that the lull in the storm we are seeing is because of the longsuffering of our Lord Jesus. He will stay the earthquakes and destruction while His Bride is making Herself ready, but even the predictions of scientists are a warning that our time is short. We have seen many prophecies come to pass, like the rise of immorality, egg-shaped cars, and even the serious potential for a woman president. The Rapture will come one day soon, so let’s make sure everything is in order in our lives. Time is short.
