In Time of Need

...God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

We received this testimony from a brother, who like most of us, tried to work out a problem with his own abilities. He and his family were stranded in the snow, at midnight, on a dark road, with little hope of rescue. He then remembered the most important thing.

I just wanted to give God the glory and thanks for his mercy and protection. My family and I woke up early and drove down to Grand Rapids to run some errands. I took the day off of work, so after we were done I could go visit and fellowship with a brother who is unable to travel.

The devil had been fighting me going to see him, as he is 2 1/2 hours away and up in northern Michigan, and the weather isn't always good for driving long distances. We had wonderful fellowship, and I ended up staying longer than I probably should have, but it's so hard to quit talking about Jesus! By the time we left for home it was 8:30pm, and I was exhausted and not looking forward to driving all the way home. To make matters worse, it started snowing quite a bit. We made it almost all the way home, when I saw a black shadow move in front of our van. Suddenly, we started spinning. I tried to correct the vehicle, but we ending up slamming into a ditch.

My wife, my kids, and I we're all fine and the van was still working. We'd missed trees, steep drop-offs, and guard rails, and ended up being stopped by a big bush. Unfortunately, now we were stuck.

I'm pretty stubborn, just ask my wife, and tried for half an hour to get us out. I only accomplished digging us deeper into the situation. I was starting to get worried, thinking we would have to call a towtruck, and we just couldn't afford that, and by this time it was half-past midnight, and I didn't want to ruin anybody's night. Then suddenly I stopped and turned to my family and said, "What am I doing, why haven't we prayed?"

So, we bowed our heads and asked a simple prayer for the Lord to help get us out of this ditch. Not a minute later a man pulled up with a big truck and asked, "Do you all need help?" He had a four-wheel drive and a chain to connect to our car, and it wasn't three minutes from the time we prayed until we were back on the road. All safe, van practically unscathed, and all of us having a better appreciation for the power of prayer!

He's an on-time God and always watching over us. Lord bless you saints!

GOD IS GOOD!

You know, it's a strange thing that how we human beings like to do things ourselves. But we are children of God, and many times we have to just take a seat and set down till God comes around and does it His way.
