Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey is the most powerful storm to strike Texas in more than 50 years, and it is not finished yet. It slammed into the coastal cities of southeast Texas early Saturday morning, and slowly traveled inland, dumping four feet of rain on Houston. After it left the nation’s fourth largest city, the monster briefly went back out to sea and then set its sights on Beaumont, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Although now weakening, it continues its deluge as it travels northeast through Louisianna, and eventually Mississippi and Kentucky. Many believers still live in its path.

Harvey marks the most extreme rain event in US history. Five million people around Houston received at least 40 inches of rain, and much of the city is still under water. 51.88 inches pounded the town of Cedar Bayou, east of Houston, which is the greatest rainfall from a single storm event ever recorded in the continental United States. Beaumont received a record 48 inches, pushing its annual rainfall to 87 inches which is a record for the year (and there are still four months left). We’ve heard of a “hundred year flood” and a “hundred year rainfall event.” That phrase means that the event has a 1 in 100 chance of happening in any given year. Forecasters say that this is a 1,000 year rainfall event. The amount of rain is simply staggering.

Friday, we posted a prayer request on the Feed, and our Lord Jesus has been merciful. Although millions of people have been affected, hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and some have lost their lives, we have not received reports of any serious problems with the believers.

We have been in contact with a number of the pastors in the flood-ravaged area of southeast Texas and southern Louisiana. They’ve informed us that many believers are stranded in their homes because flood waters have cut off road ways. A few were even rescued by emergency crews. However, all seem to be safe at this time.

At this very moment, there are hundreds of believers listening to the wind and rain batter their homes and properties. God’s judgment is raining down around them, but the Bride has nothing to fear. She is resting safe and secure in the arms of our Lord Jesus.

Prayer is the key, that's the answer. Prayer changes things. Prayer is the most powerful weapon that was ever put in the—the control of human beings. There's no atomic bomb, or no hydrogen bomb as powerful as prayer.
