Haitian Creole

We are excited to announce that we have a newly recorded language: Haitian Creole. While we’ve had Creole translations for some time, our translators are in the Jeffersonville studio this week, recording a number of sermons.

Haitian Creole is a unique language. Although it is generally based on French, it also has influence from Portuguese, Spanish, English, and even some West African languages. How did Haitian Creole become a mix of so many different languages and even cultures? It goes back to the formation of the Caribbean country of Haiti.

The language emerged from contact between French settlers and African slaves in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, which took up the western third of the Caribbean Island of Hispaniola from about 1659 to 1804. The economy in Saint-Domingue was mainly slave-based agriculture, especially growing sugar cane. It soon became the most prosperous French colony in the West Indies. The Haitian revolution (1791-1804), led mostly by liberated slaves, successfully ended slavery in Saint-Domingue, which became the sovereign country of Haiti. Today, Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the island of Hispaniola.

This week, Brothers Joseph Edmond and Alix Louis-Charles are recording the sermons 58-0720M "By Faith Moses", 59-0125 "Be Certain Of God", 63-0120M "The Voice Of God In This Last Days", 65-1121 "What House Will You Build Me?", and 64-0322 "Possessing The Gate Of The Enemy After The Trial." With the recent changes we have made to the audio editing process, the Audio Department is now able to record, edit, and post these sermons within days of recording, and sometimes on the same day! What often took weeks (or much longer) in the past is now almost immediately available. Here is a link to the Haitian Creole sermon page if you would like to download these newly recorded sermons.
