A Lesson In Faith

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

1 John 3:22

The Word teaches us that we have not, because we ask not. And when we ask, we should have faith that we will receive what we ask for. Believers should have faith that the Heavenly Father knows all things, and if we do our part, then He will certainly do His part. This sister started her day off right; she woke early and spent time in devotions to the Lord. Then, when crisis struck, the Lord taught us all a valuable lesson in faith.

Yesterday, I had my usual quiet time on the front porch.

After, I listened to the Quote of the Day, read the Good News story of "Rejoicing Over The Word," and then listened to The Sign of the Messiah 59-0329E.

In the prayer line in the sermon a lady got truly blessed and it really blessed me just to listen to her. I could just imagine how much her faith had been strengthened. After that, I decided to do some yard work. I trimmed the branches off a weeping willow tree, then threw the branches into a ravine. We throw lots of yard waste in this ravine. Tree limbs, spent flowers, even concrete chunks have been thrown in there.

I moved on to watering in the garden and then headed for the next chore when I realized my wedding ring was gone. I immediately panicked. I grabbed my phone and texted my husband to see if we had a metal detector. He called me right away and told me we didn't have one. He asked me where I had lost my ring. I told him all I had done, as I started to get very upset, thinking of all the places I had been in the yard.

He told me I would find it - just have a little faith. I headed to the garden, but then something said, "the ravine." I walked to the ravine, still talking to my husband. Just looking at the ravine, the devil flooded my mind with thoughts of doubt and despair.

My husband told me to go wake up our son to help. I went in the house and woke up both our kids. I headed back to the ravine and slowly started moving willow branches. When I got to the heap of concrete chunks, a new wave of doubt swept over me. I decided to get a rake and go rake under the willow tree to see if I could find it. The ravine was just too impossible.

When our kids came out, we headed back to the ravine. I had settled down some at this point and started singing "Only Believe" while we sifted through debris. Our son had moved some tree branches and was crouched down looking up the ravine when he found my ring. I was amazed. The kids went back inside and I headed to the porch for my second quiet time, where I rejoiced and thanked the Lord for my lesson in faith.
