News from Haiti

It is with mixed emotions that we report the most recent news from Haiti. We have been able to contact Brother Guy Cantave, our main representative; Brother Tanis, another VGR representative; Brother Guy Lamothe, pastor of the largest church in Haiti, and Brother Conserve, another pastor in the Port-au-Prince area. These brothers confirmed the reports we heard and read of mass destruction, death, and homelessness among the population of Haiti. With a death toll that could reach into the hundreds of thousands, we can only imagine the pain that almost every Haitian citizen is experiencing at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Brother Guy Lamothe, pastor of a church of about 2,000 believers, said that, because many members of his congregation are still missing, it will take at least another month to know the number of them that were killed during the earthquake. He also mentioned that almost all buildings and homes in the area where his church is located were destroyed, and that miraculously his church building was saved, and there is not a single crack in the walls of his church. The neighborhood is now using his church as a refugee center to house many people.

There is some good news coming out of Haiti. There are now food items available in the market, although the prices are high, and there is little money in the hands of the people to make purchases. Today, we are sending our first allotment of $10,000. This will be used to acquire the most immediate needs of the believers. Many believers are sleeping under trees, with only the leaves for shade and protection from the weather. Food and water are scarce, along with other necessary personal items. We will soon be working to make sure they have what they need to survive. We are thankful that the Lord has given us this opportunity to help our fellow believers, and we are excited to get started.

Another bit of good news, and a point of strength for the believers, came from the VGR library: every Message book and tape in the library was unharmed in the quake. Of course, many of the believers lost their books and tapes, so we will be working to replace that material in the near future.

We have received many questions about how to donate to this effort. To make sure your donation goes to this fund, please write “Haiti” on your check or money order. If you would like to make a credit card donation, you can go to the “Sponsorship” portion of this website and make a “general donation” (www.branham.org/donation). Please note in the comments section that this is to go towards the Haiti relief fund. For those overseas, you can also make a donation at your local VGR office; just instruct the manager to put this towards Haiti. You can also call the office in Jeffersonville for further instructions.
