Quake in Japan

The situation in Japan has been on the hearts of many believers around the world. Not only are we seeing the signs of the times manifest themselves before our eyes, but we are also concerned about our fellow members of the Body of Christ.

On Friday, March 11, a massive earthquake shook the island of Japan and spurred a tsunami that devastated the eastern coast, killing thousands. More than 50 aftershocks followed which caused more damage and panic among the citizens. The earthquake, a magnitude 9.0, is the fifth largest in recorded history, and even larger than the quake that struck Chile about this time last year.

The damage inflicted on that country is enormous. Along with the deadly tidal wave, an oil refinery went up in flames, and explosions at a nuclear power plant have threatened the safety of tens of thousands of people near Tokyo. Today, radiation is escaping and a "safety zone" of 19 miles has been enforced around the plant. Residents within that zone have been asked to stay indoors and seal their houses the best they can from outside air, and many are being evacuated. Of course, Japan's economy – the third largest in the world – is crippled which affects all of the world's economies. All eyes are on Japan right now, as they struggle for calm in the aftermath of this devastating quake.

There are not many believers in Japan, but we do have a bit of good news from a brother in Tokyo who recently requested a shipment of Message material.

Thank you for your prayers. Me and my family are in the good hands of God. We are safe and sound, and hope that things will be normal soon. The catastrophe caused panic-buying, and we had difficulty getting our food. I learned from news that electricity will be cut off by three hours on rotation basis next week. But this is not yet final. Here in Tokyo, the situation is not the same as areas hit severely by the tsunami.

It seems to me that life here in Tokyo is not abnormal. People do their usual chores, but there is cut-off of train schedules because the nuclear plant in Fukushima blew up. This is the main cause why government is advising conservation of energy power to forestall shortage. Please do send the books and DVDs, as it will help me more in my study of the Word of God. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless us all.

Bro. Nick

We will post any new information on the believers in Japan as it comes in. They will certainly covet your prayers in this difficult time.
