I drove two of our children to the Louisville Airport to catch a flight to visit their grandparents in Arizona. It was early when we arrived there, and my parking ticket was stamped with the time of 5:43 a.m. After the kids checked in, I waited at the airport until they let me know they had boarded their plane.
I was sitting there deciding what to do next, when I suddenly remember my parking ticket and glanced at the time. I had only about 4 minutes to get out of the airport and arrive at the parking attendants booth before I would be charged for another hour.
With that on my mind, I hurried to my van and drove as quick as I could to the exit. Fortunately there was no one else around, so I pulled directly up. I waited to hear the verdict: was I a minute late? I sighed with relief as the man stated that I only owed for one hour.
As he handed the receipt to me, it showed I was there 1 hour and 0 minutes. Busy thinking about all this, little did I know what I was about to witness. Before I knew it, I heard myself ask the man, "Are you a Christian?" He stood there with his mouth open, but all he could get out was few noises as he didn't know how to answer.
I then reached into my purse and held out of the window the Message CD, "Be Certain of God." As he held the other end of it, he read the title. I asked him if he would listen to it. He said, "Yes, I will" with a deep sincerity.
I then said that if he didn't want it, would give it to someone else, but this was his to keep. Still looking at the CD, I heard him say "mine to keep?" By now, I looked and saw the big arm up, signaling that I had paid my ticket and it was waiting for me leave.
He then looked at me and said again, "Yes, I will listen to it. In fact I will put it on right now." As he immediately turned to his right, there I caught a glimpse of a tall stool on which was setting an open CD player, with nothing in it! I could hardly believe my eyes: there it was, ready and waiting! Without another word, I drove away, in awe at what I had just witnessed. As the road circled around, I caught a glimpse below of the parking attendants booth shining out into the early morning darkness. I thought about another Light that was about to shine on this man. You could see he had lived a hard life, but somehow in God's great mercy allowed this man the opportunity to welcome the prophet of God to speak from this tiny parking lot booth.
I thought about the humbleness of this simple "pulpit" that was there, ready and waiting to receive the Voice of God.
