Over this holiday season I had an experience that taught me a little lesson, that I shouldn’t be too busy to stop awhile to help someone. On this particular day myself and another brother were working at the back of our church building, trying to accomplish a certain amount of work before the end of the day, as we had service that night.
Sometime earlier during the day, I came to the front of the property to collect something in the car-park area across the road from the tabernacle, and noticed a man with an old white car parked under the only tree in the car-park. He was under the hood of his car, and was apparently having some mechanical problem that he was trying to address. I didn’t think too much of it, as my mind was on my task, and returned to the back.
Later on, around midday, I came again to the front to get something else, and saw that the man was still there, and this time he had some company. Two neatly dressed young men, of a well-known denomination, were with him, apparently trying to convince the man, reading out of a book that they had. I came within hearing distance of the discussion, but somehow didn’t feel led to intervene, especially as I was pretty busy. I again returned to the back.
Finally, at the end of the day, when our work was complete, the brother and I came to the car-park rather hurriedly, as I had to drop him home, and then go home myself to prepare for service that night. To my surprise, the man was still there, this time alone, with his head under the hood. Honestly speaking, I had two minds about going over to his assistance, thinking about how little time I had before service.
Somehow, I ended up shouting across to him “Are you getting through?” He shouted back “Not really! I need a little help!” Now, we all know Brother Branham told us how much a rabbit knows about snowshoes, and that’s how much I know about vehicle engines (not bragging). Still trying to escape, I shouted, “But I don’t know much about cars!” He shouted back, “I just need some help to untighten a bolt!” I then went over to him, still in two minds, but I was glad that I did.
Come to find out, the man had a back injury that restricted the full use of his hands, and he couldn’t hold the screwdriver tight enough to release a certain hose clip. (I felt pretty bad at this point). He seemed to have a fair idea of what his problem was, but needed help to fix it. He directed me to release a rubber hose connected to a fuel filter, which he said was the problem.
This I did. He then went to turn on the ignition to confirm that problem. He told me what to look for: if I didn’t see any fuel spurting out the filter then the filter was clogged and needed changing. However when he turned the switch, fuel was spurting out normally.
Now he was stumped. He didn’t know what to do now. He spent a while walking around, scratching his head. He had brought out a new filter from his trunk, but now realized that was not the problem. He then asked me to still replace the filter, since I had already removed the lines. This I also did.
After I was done, he went back to the ignition to turn it on, rather hopelessly, with his head down, knowing it would not start. While he was walking over, I just said in my heart, “Lord Jesus, please help this man out!” To his surprise, it started normally. To tell you the truth, I was just as surprised as the man.
He kept walking around the car hood, scratching his head, repeating the statement “Something just happened here.” After a while, I told him what I had said in my heart, and I told him that the Lord had mercy on him. That opened a door wide open for me to introduce him to a prophet that I said had much greater answers to prayer than that, even to the raising of the dead. For the next twenty minutes or so, I told him of this great ministry and what the Lord Jesus has done in this day.
I ran to my van and brought back for him a witnessing CD- What is the Holy Ghost? The books, William Branham- A Man Sent From God, and The Revelation of Jesus Christ, and a couple other tracts. He took them gratefully. When I explained to him what was on the CD, he said, “You mean to tell me that man you’re speaking of, his actual voice is on this CD!” I said, “Yes.” He held it a little tighter and said, “Then, not everyone gets one of these!” I smiled. I told him it’s all yours and to enjoy it. We then went our ways, and I watched him driving by.
Incidentally, I did reach to church on time, and I shared the little witnessing experience with the believers.
The Lord bless VGR for providing these witnessing CDs for us.
