Yesterday, a string of violent thunderstorms ripped through Indiana and Kentucky, spawning tornadoes and high winds that killed nearly 30 people, damaged or destroyed thousands of homes, and left tens of thousands without power.
We knew from the weather forecast that the storms would probably hit us here in Jeffersonville sometime in the afternoon. The clouds thickened and the rumble of thunder could be heard to the west. Tornado sirens sounded at about 3:30, then the storms began to roll into southern Indiana with flashes of lightening, powerful winds, and torrential downpours.
Just north of Jeffersonville, a massive tornado ripped the town of Henryville to shreds. When they heard the monster approaching, the believers went to the safest place they could find and called out to the Lord Jesus. He heard their cries and protected His precious little lambs.
A sister with her two children saw it crest the hill behind her house and set its sights on their little home. They went to a bathroom in the center of the house and cried out to Jesus. The tornado ripped their house apart around them, destroying everything except the tiny room where the little family was praying. When the winds calmed, they walked outside to see their destroyed home. Then, they ran back into the bathroom to escape the tennis ball sized hail that was even more frightening than the tornado. Then, finally, the stormed passed. They walked outside to see the damage. All three of the precious little lambs were untouched. As they walked through the mud around their home, a song from the Still Waters Camp came to mind. Jesus Love is bubbling over, Jesus Love is bubbling over, Jesus Love is bubbling over, Ha-lle-lu-jah!
A VGR employee living near Still Waters Camp videoed a tornado roaring towards his home. He asked the Lord to protect them as he gathered his family into a bathroom and prayed. The twister came to his property line, then turned to destroy another house, but leaving his with little damage.
We know of two families of believers that lost their homes, and countless others had damage. Please keep us in prayer as we work together to pick up the pieces from these massive storms. Even though houses crumbled around them, we have received no reports of any believer being injured in any way.
