Earthquake in Haiti

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on August 14, 2021, at 8:29 am local time. The earthquake occurred 78 miles (125 km) west of the capital city of Port-au-Prince at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 kilometers). On January 12, 2010, Haiti was hit with a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake approximately 16 miles from Port-au-Prince.

Government officials said the magnitude 7.2 earthquake destroyed more than 7,000 homes and damaged nearly 5,000, leaving some 30,000 families homeless.

Brother Guy Berthiaume, from our French Office in Montreal Canada has been in contact with Brother Jean Belneau in Port-au-Prince, Haiti since Saturday morning. Brother Belneau has been communicating with believers in Jacmel and Les Cayes in the Grand South region where the epicenter of the earthquake was located.

Brother Belneau was informed that there were injuries among the believers and damage to their homes and some churches, but since there wasn't local church service on Sunday, each pastor/leader will have to go house to house to check on the condition of their congregation.

Overnight, Haiti was hit by tropical Storm Grace, which dumped rain on southern Haiti, the epicenter of the earthquake. Up to 15 inches of rain were expected in areas before Grace leaves Haiti.

Please continue to pray for the believers in Haiti.
