Witness

This sister's day started just right with her Quiet Time. The Lord reminded her of a testimony from another believer, and gave her the same opportunity, if she would have faith. Her prayer was answered, and the Lord once again showed us that He is mindful of the little things just as much as the big things.

My parents arrived last Friday afternoon from Alabama to spend the weekend with me and my family. They were looking forward to surprising my granddaughters by picking them up from school and spending the next few hours visiting with us.

After supper, at a local restaurant with the whole family, we returned to my eldest daughter’s house for coffee and dessert. Not long before we decided to call it an evening, my father, “Pop”, realized that he was missing one of his hearing aids. My mother and I helped him search his clothing as well as in and around the chair where he had been sitting, but to no avail. Thinking it may have fallen out of his ear on the trip over, Pop and my youngest son went to search the car – still no success. “Momma” left ahead of us, and with the help of my eldest son, made a sweep of my driveway where their car had been parked earlier. It was difficult to see much of anything as it was dark, so we gave up for the night.

The following morning I began Quiet Time by reading the wonderful testimony, “Little Things”, from Bro. Santana in Brazil; I don’t believe in coincidences either. After reading about the brother’s lost and then found cell phones, I felt that the Lord was nudging me, reminding me that I too was a believer and only had to ask for His help on Pop’s behalf. So I knelt down and said, “Lord, you know how much Pop means to me; how he has loved and taken care of me. Please grant this small request and help him find his lost hearing aid.” Shortly thereafter I stepped out to the living room and found Pop quietly reading. “How did you sleep?” I asked. “Not very well,” he said, “I was worried about my hearing aid.” Pop asked if I would look up the phone number of the restaurant where we had eaten the night before. He wanted to call when they opened, and see if the hearing aid might have been found.

While I made breakfast, Momma joined us in the kitchen and was expressing her concern about the lost hearing aid also. By this time Pop decided that he would walk down the street to my daughter’s house to take another look where they had parked their car the previous afternoon. Momma and I sat at the table, finishing our meal. She said, “It is frustrating to see how much this is bothering Pop.” With an assurance in my heart, I said, “It will be alright.”

A little time passed and then the front door opened; pop had returned. He didn’t say anything as he came over to the table. He held up, for both of us to see, the missing hearing aid! Both Momma and I were thrilled! I raised my hands and said, “Praise the Lord!” for I knew it was an answer to prayer. As Pop started to walk away, I said, “Just a moment, I need to share something with both of you.” I couldn’t let this opportunity pass by in telling my parents, who are lifelong Episcopalians, that they had just witnessed a vindication of the living God that I serve, the One who will come on the scene just by the moving of our lips.

I told Pop and Momma about Bro. Santana’s testimony, and the inspiration the Lord gave me to pray – all part of God’s goodness and loving kindness in returning the lost hearing aid.

From a humbled and grateful sister,
